Lynn' s Update

  • Sunday Hot Meal
We've seen a wonderful increase of volunteers for our Sunday Hot Meal  program. Whether I'm chatting in line at the grocery store, ordering pizza, or shopping at the mall, I find volunteers eager to sign up and help. Welcome to Kevin Roscoe and Linda Ammons, our newest Sunday Meal Chefs. Other Sunday Chefs include Kit Kocha, Dave Mathews, Diane Gamache and Fran Mathers. Thank you to all.
  • OSL Monday and Friday program at Lake City
        Presbyterian
Our Monday and Friday programs are growing in leaps and bounds. Our enthusiastic bunch started with eight
volunteers and has nearly tripled! We start preparing the lunches at 9:00 and sometimes finish in an hour. Plenty of time for coffee and donuts.
  • Shopping Spree
In September , our fearless leader Beverly received a phone call from Danette at Food Life Line. The Boston Markets had closed their doors for good and the
Woodinville and Bothell stores needed someone to give everything to. Enter Sack Lunch. We took everything but the kitchen sink with the help of Jan Kline, Joan and John French, Ed and Susan Dailey, Rolfe Eckman and Dave Mathews. We loaded up frozen chickens, sauces, veggies, hundreds of cups, plates and serving utensils. We even took home mops and pails! Where we going to store all this stuff? In steps Shurgard Storage of Totem Lake who donated a space to us until February 1999. Thank You!
  • Sleeping Bags, Sleeping Bags
In October Beverly started handing out sleeping bags
during the serving of the Sunday Hot Meal. Oh my! She got there around 3:30 and was still calling names, crossing them off the list, taking more names and handing out bags until 6:00. Freezing cold. Pouring down rain. With a
couple of exceptions, everyone  was usually patient and cheerful. They call Bev "Queen B". She likes that! Much thanks to Dan and Pat Cooke for coming to the rescue during sleeping bag Sundays. Two vans and a car loaded to the hilt with sleeping bags. Yikes!
  • A hug and a kiss to Dorothy Buchman, our
Sunday sandwich maker deluxe. Six weeks in the
hospital has not dampened her enthusiasm. We miss her and look forward to her return!
  • Last but not least, a huge Thank You to my
Husband Dave for filling in for me at the Lions Club when I was sick. I couldn't have managed without him!

Keep those volunteers coming!

Sleeping Bag Campaign

In October OSL began its annual sleeping bag
campaign. We have a great deal from Big Five and Fred Meyer for $16.77 a bag plus tax. Our 1998-99 winter-season goal is 2,000 new sleeping bags to those who live without houses. So far we have purchased and handed out 400 new bags with 1600 to go. This time of year sleeping bags are considered to be a life saving piece of equipment. It is very, very cold out there and this year we've seen so many more children and women.
